John Michael Sheil (8-1), or JMS, was once one of Irish MMA's top fighters. One considered most likely to help break down the barriers to the UFC for Irish fighters and now he returns just over four years since he last competed.
The Wicklow man began his pro career in 2007 and amassed an 8-0 record over the following five years. His popular fights with John Redmond, Henry Fadipe, Conor Cooke and Ross Pointon helped build the pre-UFC foundations for Irish MMA when the sport was just starting to boom in the country.
He also found success for himself in Cage Warriors where he went 2-0, and beat a very tough an established fighter in Victor Cheng, before, in his last contest at Cage Warrior 49, he was on the wrong end of a split decision loss to Faycal Hucin.
JMS made his pro debut in Canada, so it seems fitting that he restarts his career in Canada at Hard Knocks 54 later this month on St. Patrick's Day. His opponent will be Bellator and M-1 veteran Jason Norwood (16-4) in what is being billed ass a welterweight contest.
32-year-old Norwood is an 8 year vet of the sport. He competed once under the Bellator banner and also appeared on the promotion's Fight Master series. Currently on a 4-1 run, Norwood has a long history of finishing his opponents with the majority of his wins coming by way of TKO or submission. And of course JMS has never won any of his fights by decision, scoring all eight wins via stoppage.
Joining JMS on the card will be two of his SBG teammates.
Dylan Logan (0-1) is scheduled to face Chris Day (1-2) in a pro featherweight contest while David Howlin (2-0) will face Jarren Hunt (1-1) in the amateur ranks earlier on the night.
