Belfast's Karl McBain successful in MMA debut

On Saturday night in Wolverhampton, England Karl McBain (1-0) was successful in his amateur MMA debut with a win over Spain's Principe Nsilulu at Golden Ticket Promotions Fight Night 4.

Despite his background in full contact kickboxing it was his submission skills that sealed the in as he sunk in a guillotine just under two minutes into the first round.

This win capped off a great weekend for the IFS gym. The night before Oktawian Olejniczak and Daniel Rutkowski won their respective fights at BAMMA.

Speaking to IFS head coach Paul McLaughlin he shared his thoughts on McBain and the past few days for his club and fighters.

"Karl has done a few interclubs and is now starting to make his way into the MMA circuit. My impression of him is that when he's in the gym he trains hard and is eager to learn. He's buzzing after his win last night and already asking me what's next. With focus he has the potential to do very well.

"BAMMA for IFS was a great experience. Oktawian Olejniczak and Daniel Rutkowski fought on Friday night both taking home the wins. Then earlier in the week Mindaugas Gerve signed a multi fight contract with the promotion.

"You couldn't ask for anything more than that and with Karl fighting on Golden Ticket and winning with a first round submission in England on Saturday that was the cherry on top of the cake."
