Cage Warriors 83 takes place this weekend in Newport, Wales and it will feature two of Irish MMA's top fighters Joe 'The SBG Hunter' McColgan (2-1) and Gavin 'Heamy' Kelly (8-3). Both men are matched up in tough fights against local undefeated opposition.
McColgan faces Richard Williams (4-0), a fighter with four straight first round wins. Williams made his pro debut just over a year ago and in the space of seven months he scored three first round submissions, including one in his Cage Warriors debut over the more experienced Terry Doyle. His last fight came just two months ago where he notched his first TKO win of his pro career in less than a minute.
Kelly will go up against Josh Reed (6-0). A professional since 2013, Reed won his first five fights via stoppage. In his last fight this past October he went to a decision for this first time and narrowly got the nod of the judges over Irish veteran Martin Sheridan.
Both of these contests provide unique match-ups for everyone involved. For McColgan he has the chance to bounce back from his first career defeat and is matched-up against a similarly experienced opponent as opposed to the more seasoned professionals he has faced in his previous two fights.
Kelly has the opportunity to make a big splash and take out one of Wales' UFC hopefuls and to do so on UFC Fight Pass. A win here and suddenly Kelly's stock shoots up. For Williams and Reed, these respective fights mark the toughest challenges of their undefeated careers.
Two great fights involving four quality fights.
