Over the weekend in Birmingham at the monumental BAMMA 25 event we saw Europe's top prospect Tom DuQuesnoy (13-1, 1 NC) move down to bantamweight to claim his second BAMMA title with an explosive win over Shay Walsh.
The 22-year-old said after the fight that he wants the Lonsdale belt which is held by Irish MMA's Alan Philpott (15-7). Today I spoke to Philpott and he simply said - "Duquesnoy wants it. I want it. It makes perfect sense."
Philpott won the BAMMA Lonsdale title at BAMMA 24 with a win over Nathaniel Wood, becoming the first ever person from Irish MMA to hold a BAMMA title.
Originally expected to defend his title next month in Dublin but BAMMA postponed their BAMMA 26 event until September, leaving his title defense and a lot of scheduled fights up in the air.
BAMMA might see Alan Philpott vs. Tom Duquesnoy as the perfect fight to ease the pain of disappointed Irish MMA fans.
