Sheehan wins Gold on a mixed final day for Team Republic of Ireland

Today the finals of the annual IMMAF World Championships took place at the UFC Fan Expo in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Team Republic of Ireland had three fighters make it to the finals although were unlucky to not have more after Cian Cowley suffered an injury right before the semi finals ruling himself out of the competition. Many had tipped him to go the whole way and his showings in earlier rounds of the competition added weight to these expectations.

David Fogarty, Nathan Kelly and Matthew Sheehan were the fighters who made it through to the finals.

Here are the results:

FlyW- Brayden Graham (ROI) def. David Fogarty (ROI) via TKO, rd 2.

FW- Shoaib Yousef (UK) def. Nathan Kelly (ROI) via unanimous decision.

LHW- Matthew Sheehan (ROI) def. Tencho Karaenev (BUL) via TKO, rd 3.

The whole Irish team can hold their heads up high after some very entertaining performances and an impressive medal haul in Vegas.

In total the Republic of Ireland team walked away with 1 gold, 2 silvers and 3 bronze medals.

Here is the medal table:

Gold - Matthew Sheehan
