James McErlean set to make Bellator debut in Belfast

Hard work pays off. After a standout 2016, EFR's James McErlean (7-3) will make his Bellator MMA debut at the SSE Arena in Belfast later this month.

After starting his professional career going 3-0 and then losing three in a row the youngster turned things around in 2016 and went 4-0, beating some tough opposition.

First he won a decision over talented local Niall Smith, then he submitted the much bigger and more experienced Dec Larkin before heading to England and submitting two previously undefeated opponents in Daryl Golding and Sam Spencer at ICE FC and Tanko, respectively.

McErlean will face arguably his toughest opponent to date when he takes on Shay Walsh (14-4). Based out of Tiger Muay Thai in Thailand, Walsh went 4-1 in BAMMA with that sole loss coming against Tom Duquesnoy. Now the English, like McErlean, is about to embark on his Bellator MMA career in Belfast.

Bellator 173 takes place February 24th at the SSE Arena in Belfast and will feature Liam McGeary vs. Chris Fields in the main event. The show is also co-promoted with BAMMA who will have Norman Parke vs. Paul Redmond feature in their main event.
