Sligo's own undefeated and world bare knuckle boxing champ Jimmy Sweeney (15-0) looks set to face UFC veteran Melvin Guillard (1-0) at BKB 6 in London this July 1st at the o2 Arena.
Sweeney defended his title with a sweeping unanimous decision win over Shonie Carter, a mixed martial arts veteran who has fought in most of the major promotions including the UFC.
Guillard also made his bare knuckle debut on the same card finishing his opponent. There was some bad blood between Sweeney and Guillard all during fight week with the pair clashing on a number of occasions on the street, in the hotel lobby and even at a restaurant, which ultimately lead to Guillard clasping a knife. Thankfully nothing serious ever came close to happening.
A source close to Sweeney said that the pair will finally get to sort it out in the ring this July in what should be an explosive contest.
34-year-old Guillard fought for the UFC 22 times between 2005 and 2014. Over the course of his MMA career he amassed a record of 32-17-2 (3 NC) and was known for his toughness, durability and explosive hands.
