Irish fighter Jimmy Sweeney remained undefeated on Saturday night when he defeated true MMA veteran Shonie Carter in Coventry at BKB 5.
Carter, also known as Mr. International, began his MMA career in 97 and has fought or just about every major promotion including the UFC, Pancrase, KSW, M-1, Bellator and was a one-time WEC champ. Over the years he defeated people like Matt Serra, Chris Lytle, Dave Menne, and Jason MacDonald.
One Saturday night the 44-year-old made his bare knuckle boxing debut. Carter is a crafty and experienced veteran of combat sports and he showed that. Sweeney was the much better fighter throughout but Carter's fighting savvy kept him in the contest for the full full. Sweeney won the bout via decision.
It now looks like Sweeney might face Melvin Guillard next. The UFC vet also fought at BKB 5 winning his fight via TKO and the pair shared words throughout the week. BKB 6 takes place in London on July 1st but no fights have been confirmed.
