Yesterday it was announced by Scott Coker on The MMA Hour that James Gallagher (6-0) will compete against Chinzo Machida (5-2) in Madison Square Garden at Bellator NYC on June 24th.
But who exactly is Chinzo Machida?
The name might sound familiar as he is the brother of MMA great and former UFC champ Lyoto Machida. The 40-year-old is currently on a four-fight-win-streak, three via devastating KOs.
Chinzo made his MMA debut in 2005 but only fought three times over the next five years, posting a record of 1-2. He then took a three year break from the sport and returned in 2013 with a bang by landing a flying knee to his opponent at RFA 11 (see below).
He fought once more in the RFA promotion before getting snapped up by Bellator. He made his promotional debut in August of last year and KO'd Mario Navarro in the first round with an uppercut.
His last fight happened in January and Chinzo scored a KO win over Jamar Ocampo towards the end of their contest proving he is dangerous even after two rounds.
