In February it was revealed that BAMMA signed IFS fighter Mindaugas Gerve (1-0) to an exclusive multi-fight contract. The 7ft tall behemoth went 3-0 as an amateur, stopping each of his opponents, before submitting England's Scott Mitchell in Liverpool at ICE FC 18 this past October in his professional debut.
Over the weekend it was announced that Gerve will be making his promotional debut at the upcoming BAMMA 29 card in Birmingham on May 12th and his opponent will be heavyweight slugger Luke Morton (3-3).
Speaking directly to us the 32-year-old clearly is focused on winning the BAMMA heavyweight strap - a title left vacant by current UFC fighter Mark Godbeer.
"I am really grateful for the faith BAMMA have put in me, I can't ask for more then that," said Gerve. "They have give me really big opportunity to show everyone what I really can do. Fighters can no longer run away from me, they now need to step into the cage and face me. It means now finally I can show everyone what I can do.
I have just one goal and one focus and that's is fight, win and become the BAMMA heavyweight champion and it's not gonna take me long. When people see me fight they will understand that! I will defeat anyone BAMMA puts in the cage with me. It's gonna be all finishes I will give my all in the cage and nothing less, I won't leave it up to the judges. I will to put on a show and exciting fights but don't except them all to last long."
