It might not have been the desired result or overall performance but Artem Lobov, who essentially came out of MMA obscurity into the UFC limelight, proved he can hang in there for five rounds with one of the world's best in Cub Swanson.
Many felt this was a complete mismatch pitting the number four ranked fighter Cub Swanson against the unranked and split record Artem Lobov. The majority were expecting a quick and easy night for Cub.
And while the Swanson won a very handy unanimous decision, it as far from 'easy' by any means. Lobov started strong and won the first round on the two of the judges' scorecards and then hung in there for the remainder of the contest and landed more strikes on Swanson than anyone else has managed to do.
As a result, Artem Lobov earned a 'Performance of the Night' bonus of $50,000 - a well earned consolation prize for stepping up and facing Swanson, what many fighters would see as a daunting challenge.
