On May 13th in Johannesburg, South Africa Henry Fadipe (9-8-1) will attempt to regain his EFC welterweight title when he challenges Dricus Du Plessis (9-1) at EFC 59.
Fadipe made his EFC debut back in 2013 fighting Tumelo Maphutha to a draw. He followed this with two straight stoppage wins over the promotion's very best welterweights in Martin van Staden and Michiel Opperman. He was then granted a title shot against Dino Bagattin and it took him just three minutes to score a KO victory.
In his next fight however Fadipe dropped the title to Adam Speechly via unanimous decision after five hard fought rounds. The title then changed hands a couple more times before it was left vacant.
In June of last year Dricus Du Plessis defeated Martin van Staden and was crowned the new king at 170lbs.
Fadipe took two years off after losing the title but returned last October to win via TKO in the third round after his opponent wouldn't engage. After the fight Fadipe was announced as the next title challenger and he squared up with Du Plessis.
Now we have a set date for the hotly anticipated fight - May 13th.
Here is a short promo released by the promotion over the weekend.
