Sligo's own undefeated and world bare knuckle boxing champ Jimmy Sweeney (15-0) will face UFC veteran Melvin Guillard (1-0) at BKB 6 in London this July 1st at the o2 Arena.
Sweeney defended his BKB title with a sweeping unanimous decision win over Shonie Carter, a mixed martial arts veteran who has fought in most of the major promotions including the UFC. Guillard made his bare knuckle debut on that exact card finishing his opponent.
There was some bad blood between Sweeney and Guillard all during fight week with the pair clashing on a number of occasions on the street, in the hotel lobby and even at a restaurant, which ultimately lead to Guillard clasping a knife. Thankfully nothing serious ever came close to happening.
34-year-old Guillard fought for the UFC 22 times between 2005 and 2014. Over the course of his MMA career he amassed a record of 32-18-2 (3 NC) and was known for his toughness, durability and explosive hands.
The UFC vet was in action just four weeks ago where he was KO'd with a spinning back kick at an MMA event in China.
