K-1: Paul Norton wins ISKA Intercontinental title

K-1: Paul Norton wins ISKA Intercontinental title

Dublin's Paul Norton won the ISKA Intercontinental pro strap at Warrior FC VI in his hometown on Saturday night.

The Champion Muay Thai Gym fighter scored a first round TKO victory over Spain's Ivan Nino in the main event of the night. Norton's leg kicks were just too much for the Spanish fighter as he crumbled towards the end of the round.

He took to facebook after the fight to applaud Nino for stepping up on late notice and thanked his team.

Thanks everyone who made my fight happen last night, Ivan Niño who took the fight on short notice after a pullout. Big thanks to Paddy Clint, Carl Hand,Ferial Felix Ameeroedien, Mark Casserly, Gary Ormond, Tomas Satas, Iska Owen Ireland, Champion Gym and everyone in it for all the training and behind the scenes of the fight. Thanks to my family (home and abroad) and friends who put up with all the training and diets. Especially Felix for the last week of cutting.

Alex Masuku: I would knock Dylan Logan out but want the rematch with Rhys McKee the most

Alex Masuku: I would knock Dylan Logan out but want the rematch with Rhys McKee the most

Last week Alex Masuku (0-2) found his way onto twitter and immediately used it to pick a bone with SBG's Dylan Logan (0-0) and challenged him to a fight at BAMMA 26 in Dublin.

I spoke to Masuku about the tweets and if there was any backstory he said that Logan said he could beat him.

"Basically I heard that Dylan said he could beat me before," said Masuku. "When I heard he wanted to make his pro debut at BAMMA I thought it was the perfect time to get the fight made. Dylan wouldn't be able to stand with me and I can see myself knocking him out, he wouldn't handle my speed or power in my opinion."

The Impetus MMA fighter also spoke about his BAMMA debut against Rhys McKee and shared his thoughts on stepping up on late notice.

"I thought I was quite unlucky in my last fight. With all due respect to Rhys I took the fight at BAMMA 24 with 2 days notice which is pretty much unheard of. It was very rushed and I know if I'm given another chance against him the outcome will be different. I can't argue that Rhys is a good fighter but I know with a full training camp he won't be able to beat me. I didn't get to show my full capabilities last time out. To be honest that's actually a fight I'm looking to get made the most. I've been talking to BAMMA about possible match-ups for September and hopefully we can get that made if Rhys is up for round two!

I think BAMMA is a brilliant show. It gives you the chance to expose your talents worldwide on a massive stage. Everyone on that show is striving to make it to the big time so that competitiveness is huge. At the moment I'm just looking to fight, my training going great and I just want to get back in the cage ASAP. As proven I'm never a man to shy from a fight so whoever, whenever it is at the moment!"

Ryan Sheehan wins in Italy

Ryan Sheehan wins in Italy

Just two weeks after his heroics in Japan where he fought the World ISKA Champion to a draw (click here to read more) Ryan Sheehan headed to Italy on Saturday night to face Vyorel Vintu from the Ukraine in the main event of Wolf of the Ring in Milan.

As if getting over a tough match against the world champ two weeks prior wasn't enough, Sheehan faced some difficulty making it to Italy. Delayed and cancelled flights with some missing bags caused some adversity for Sheehan and his team.

However the Cork man was not phased by this and he go the win on points. Sheehan took to facebook following the fight:

"Winner winner chicken dinner. So won the fight in point no way on earth was I coming home without a win!! Thanks for the support back home!! Time to put the feet up and enjoy my birthday on Monday."

UAMMA announce a progression pathway for amateur fighters

UAMMA announce a progression pathway for amateur fighters

On Saturday figures in MMA from Northern Ireland met up and discussed some pressing issues in regards to the amateur side of the sport.

I was sent the following press release by the UAMMA:

Ulster Amateur MMA (UAMMA) are proud to announce that on Saturday 28th May an inaugural meeting between the North's Promoters, esteemed Referees and UAMMA Representatives was held.

A number of major issues were discussed and agreed and we will be publishing detailed statements over the forthcoming days, including agreed Medical and Safety standards, a New Referees Commission and an agreed progression system for MMA Competitors.

As everyone is aware UAMAA have run two very successful Junior and Novice Tournaments over the last year, as a result we have piloted and developed a system that allows a competitive outlet that is all inclusive.

This system has been further developed to include IMMAF Amateur Rules for 18 year olds upwards. This structure will allow promoters, coaches and teams to develop their athletes in readiness should they wish to move from the tournament circuit into the Promotions. It will also develop a high standard of competitor with a full range of competitive experience behind them.

UAMMA intends to hold a minimum of 3 Tournaments per year.

It was unanimously agreed that Unified Rules will be used at Private Promotions/Shows and we will be producing guidance on these rules through our new Referees Commission over the next few days.

We have attached a Competition Progression diagram below for ease of reference.

If you have any questions please feel free to pm us here.

Thank You RODNEY MOORE - UAMMA

Big Rogie travelled to Derry to face a Twitter troll in person

Big Rogie travelled to Derry to face a Twitter troll in person

Irish heavyweight boxer Martin Rogan did on Thursday morning what many wished they could do and that is to confront a Twitter troll in person.

The former commonwealth champion travelled to Derry to challenge the Twitter troll in person and went to the man's work, as reported by DerryNow.com, and asked for him by name.

The man apparently refused and there was a reported 'tense situation'. However the matter was eventually resolved and Rogan left.

The boxer then took to Twitter to say it was all sorted and gave a warning out to anyone else who felt they could send abusive tweets without any repercussions. Fair play Rogie!

Ricky Hatton: McGregor vs. Mayweather is "the biggest load of bullshit"

Ricky Hatton: McGregor vs. Mayweather is "the biggest load of bullshit"

Ricky Hatton was in Dublin recently to promote “The Future” boxing event at the National Boxing Stadium on June 25th and while there he spoke to BUZZ.ie about the potential Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather fight.

“I just can’t see it happening, to be honest.”

“For talk sake, if it was to happen it would have to be a boxing match, because I couldn’t see Floyd getting involved in the mixed martial arts side of it.”

“But saying that, and I’m not one to mince my words, but I think it’s the biggest load of bullshit I’ve ever heard.”

“And that’s no disrespect to Conor McGregor because I’m a huge fan of his and of what he does, but I just can’t see it happening.”

FOX journalist Colin Cowherd says the fight is definitely happening in September (watch here) but no official word has, to the date, been announced. Most people within the fight game echo Hatton's words that the fight will not happen.
